Is Violin Hard to Learn?
Learning music, as joyful as it is, could be challenging at times, and many parents are often concerned about adding an additional challenge with an instrument that is considered to be difficult to learn to begin with. My favorite instrument, the violin, is not only considered a “difficult instrument”, but Some would argue, it is the most difficult instrument.
Why is violin hard to learn?
It is all about sound production. In order to get a sound out of a piano, you simply press down the keys to produce a sound with a defined tonality. In order to play the violin, you would need to figure out what notes to play with the left-hand fingering and how to produce the sound using the bow with your right hand. The bowing technique is quite complex and requires great sensitivity.
The violin pasture also requires practice and coordination. Unlike the guitar, the violin is a one-side instrument, placed on your left shoulder while each hand requires you to master a completely different technique.
Is violin harder than guitar?
There are many similarities between the two instruments; both belong to the strings family and even look alike with strings running from the neck to the body, being pressed by the left-hand fingers to create the definition of the notes. The sound production, however, is very different. The guitarist's right hand is used to pluck the guitar’s strings and the violinist's right hand moves the bow over the strings to create the sound. Many would claim that violin is harder than guitar due to the bow technique and pasture.
Why should I send my child to learn violin?
If it is such a difficult instrument you probably wonder at this point how come so many kids are playing the violin. I started playing the violin when I was five years old and the only thing I remember is how much I liked it. Turned out, kids don’t seem to have the same challenges as adults. Learning the violin is like acquiring a new language, and kids are just natural. I remember practicing four hours a day at the age of ten, enjoying the dexterity of my fingers. In a sense I liked it the same way other kids liked sport, the fast fingers moving over the strings, combined with the bow techniques was a fulfilling experience and as a child, it gave me confidence.
How hard is it to learn violin by yourself?
Being a classically trained violinist, I would not recommend it. Although possible, I don’t think I would be able to have the same violin technique and skills without the wonderful tutoring of my classical violin teachers. The more I learned the more I realized how much there is to learn.
Violin for beginners
It takes years of practice to master any instrument, not only the violin but it pays off at the end realizing how many ways you could play the violin. Although a violin for beginners might be more challenging than other instruments, you would be surprised how many kids are up for the challenge. If your child is interested in learning the violin, go for it. There are so many benefits to playing the violin, from brain development, creativity, to self-discipline and self-expression.
Learn to play violin
It is important to understand how the violin is played before making a commitment, just like any other hobby, and believe them when they say practice makes perfect. Being a violinist and educator, I can tell you firsthand that the violin is fun. It always plays the melodic part in the orchestra, it sings higher than any other strings instrument and it is the closest instrument to the human voice. Perhaps this is why I was able to play this amazing musical instrument in so many music genres, from violin Hip Hop violin music where I collaborated with so many artists to African music recordings featuring the sound of strings.
in classical musicWhen kids practice and succeed in producing a beautiful violin sound, there is nothing more beautiful than that, at least in my opinion.
