On 2nd May, 2017 Nairobi Kenya – Grammy Award Winner Miri Ben-Ari joined a prestigious list of internationally acclaimed artists among them Michael Jackson, who have been memorized by the beauty of the Swahili language, and have embraced it in their music. Ben-Ari, who has collaborated with artists such as Kanye West, Jay Z, Wyclef Jean and Alicia Keys is teaming up with long-time friend, former Israeli diplomat turned Kenyan pop star, Gilad Millo to create ‘Say Nanana’ a Swahili love song written by Gilad and produced by the American superstar herself.
Released on 2nd May 2017, initially to radio stations in Kenya, the song was produced by Ben-Ari working online between New York and Nairobi over a period of six months. Miri Ben-Ari, who has never been to Africa, plans to visit to Kenya in the near future for a special live performance and to shoot the music video for the song using Kenya as a backdrop.
“Working with Miri has been a privilege and an education at so many levels” says Gilad “but most importantly it is my hope that the song helps to expose the beauty of the Swahili language and African culture that I have come to love to more of the world through Miri’s unique sound”.
